Our Hair goes through so much each day, and it's not just heat styling, harsh dyes and tension breakage causing the most damage. Our lifestyles, diets and emotional wellbeing all effect the health of our hair and scalp...
Here are some of our top tips for naturally healthy, strong and shiny hair!
Vitamins
The right balance of vitamins is essential for hair health, growth and thickness. Vitamin B7 (Biotin) and B12 are both needed to strengthen and protect the hair, and can be found in milk, eggs, bananas, salmon, sweet potatoes and almonds. Vitamin C and Iron help to increase circulation, allowing oxygen to pass into the cells more efficiently, whilst Vitamin D and Zinc deficiencies have been linked to hair loss and premature thinning. Vitamin A is also important for strong, healthy hair and can be found in leafy greens as well as orange and yellow vegetables.
Stay Hydrated
Water makes up almost 25% of the weight of each single strand of hair, and when our hair isn't getting the moisture it needs it become weak and brittle, breaking or 'splitting' easily. Staying hydrated is an easy way to not only improve hair health, but the overall function of every cell in our body.
Massage
Regular scalp massages are one of the easiest ways to encourage hair growth and thickness. Massage helps to increase circulation to the scalp, allowing essential nutrients to be delivered to the hair follicle more easily. A study done in 2016 found that a four minute scalp massage every day increases hair thickness in just a few months!
Limit heat
Heat styling doesn't just cause dryness and breakage, but high temperatures actually change the structure of our hair, converting a-keratin to b-keratin, which leads to weaker and more damage prone hair. Limiting heat usage doesn't just save our hair - but electricity too! We don't need any more reason to lay off the straighteners.
Handle With Care
How hard are you brushing? How often are you using chemical products and harsh treatments? We often forget how fragile our hair is, treating it more like an accessory than a part of our body. Be nice to your hair, use gentle, natural products and allow recovery time after any heat styling.
Minimize Stress
Stress doesn't just show up as aches and pains in our body - it effects our hair and nails too. Stress is one of the highest causes of hair loss and premature greying. Mindfulness practices, creativity, walks in nature, fostering healthy boundaries and supportive relationships are all good ways of minimizing stress in our daily lives.
Essential Oils
There are a number of Essential Oils that have been shown to improve hair health. Rosemary has been found to be as effective as Minoxidil at encouraging hair regrowth, whilst Thyme Oil works to strengthen the hair and promote a natural shine. Peppermint is known to boost blood circulation and increase the number of follicles, and Cedarwood balances oil production, creating more growth-friendly conditions. Our Hair Oils use all of these ingredients and more alongside powerful, Vitamin Rich Carrier Oils to give Hair the nutrient boost it needs to grow long, strong and shiny.
